Photographer Derek Ryan Mathewson recently submitted a photo that he took of himself at a tucked-away gem just west of Page.

“It took me a couple of years to find out exactly where this spot was located due to it being pretty remote and off-the-foot-beaten-path,” Mathewson says. “But once I researched the coordinates on how to get there, it was pinned on my map for the next time I visited Arizona.

“I can honestly say that it has become one of my new favorite photogenic Arizona gems. The alcove/cave is amazing, but what really ignites me is the contrast and composition of the solo standing tree and the tiger-ish stripes on the walls. The life of this tree goes to show that life can pretty much grow and live anywhere.”
