Two new projects hit the small screen this weekend, both tackling the subject of celebrity albeit in very different ways. Whether you are a kid, a kid at heart or a child of the 80s, these projects are certain to entertain you from the comfort of your own couch.

“Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” is a hybrid live-action/animated action-adventure comedy film based on the classic cartoon chipmunks Chip and Dale and the animated television series in which they appeared more than 30 years ago. Living very different lives since their show’s cancelation, the pair reunite when a cast member from the series disappears under mysterious circumstances.

The film features several surprises in the form of cameos from a host of cartoon characters from other animated properties and is being praised for its meta-commentary as it repeatedly breaks the fourth wall and takes viewers on an adventure unlike they have ever seen before. It is streaming exclusively on Disney+.

Meanwhile, Emmy Rosum portrays the title character in “Angelyne” — a five-episode limited series about an American singer, actress, media personality and model who came to prominence in 1984 after the appearance of several billboards in and around Los Angeles which featured her posing suggestively.

The limited series features themes of fame, identity, survival and more as it tells the story of a woman who became a celebrity out of sheer determination and nothing else. All five episodes are now streaming exclusively on Peacock.

Although Angelyne is very much a real person, she is every bit as animated as Chip and Dale. Whereas “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” proves that fiction can, under the right circumstances, be made to feel real, “Angelyne” proves that fact is often far stranger than fiction.
