Nature, travel and adventure photographer Mark Laverman recently submitted a photo that he took over the Labor Day holiday weekend a few years ago at Monument Valley.
“I envisioned a Navajo on horseback silhouetted in between the two mittens,” says Laverman, who is president of the Phoenix Camera Club — a collective of photography enthusiasts that is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.
“We scouted, found the location and our guide found the horseback rider. His name is Larry Holiday and his horse is named Halo. We arrived an hour before sunrise and got all set up. Halo was nervous because it was dark but calmed down as it got lighter and then mother nature put on an amazing show with an absolutely incredible sunrise.”
