Ahwatukee resident David Williams recently submitted a photo that he took during a trip to the Mogollon Rim.

“I was standing on the edge of the Mogollon Rim last fall when the colors in the sunset began to intensify,” says Williams, who is a member of the Phoenix Camera Club — a collective of photography enthusiasts that is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.

“I was frantically looking for a wonderful composition but could not keep my eyes off of the layers of mountains and how each layer increased in haze until the final layer became a light purple. When I saw the fire road on the right leading my eyes into the scene, I knew I had my shot. It all reminded me of a wonderful layered cake with different flavors in each layer.”
